Alternator Decisions
I want to update the alternator in my 1986 Corvette from the 12SI series to the CS144 series. I am interested in an 140A option. I also need the adapter.
- Do I need to upgrade any wiring to a high gauge with the higher output?
- These are the parts I am looking at. Anyone know if this will fit an 86?
1) D1CS144HD140 (140A CS144 series alternator)

Alternator
On my 86, i put on an alternator from a 94 corvette.
just open up the ears on the top of the alternator bracket and plug it in and go.
be sure to use the lower stabilizing arm from the 94.
enjoy more volts at idle, and they last forever
