Aluminum or iron heads
How do I tell what type of heads are on my engine. I have a 1986 corvette and someone asked me what type of heads I had on it because I was purchasing spark plugs for it. Anyone have some knowledge for me?? 🙏🏻🙏🏻

All 86 convertibles had aluminum heads.
The coupes had iron heads until the last 8,594 built of 27,794 total 1986 coupes. So about the last 25% of coupes had aluminum heads.
The easy way to remember: All convertibles, and a coupe with a VIN of 20,xxx + had aluminum heads.

Even easier if NOT a 'vert is what was mentioned in post # 2 And actually with any of them you might want to check and confirm using post #2 as a guide

Just look at the valve covers, if the bolts are around the perimeter you have the Iron '624 heads. The '128 AL heads have bolts down the centerline of the VC.
Same AL heads in 87, then the D-port '113s came in 88-91.
