Ok driving down my road, turn left onto the major road, got about 100 feet from my road when It dies, not electroicly but like no fuel type or no spark type...My Guess was bad fuel pump...I have NO idea....any one got ideas, it still cranks but no start and no studder no nothing...Spark or fuel ?
C4Dreams *about to give up* this thing is a POS, Every other week im fixin my car when the mustang boys laugh at me
Pull off a spark plug wire, stick a screw driver into the plug wire where it was attached to the plug. Hold it next to the block while someone cranks it over and see if there is a spark jumping. No spark then it is ignition related . Spark, then probably fuel problem and a fuel pressure guage will help ID the bad component. ie: pump, FPR etc. Any codes?
No Check engine light if thats what u mean...

Not all of us have these nice tools to diagnose. Fuel Pressure guage, Valve spring clearance tool, etc...I have no special tools. Wich is why i get screwed when something breaks
Re: HELP, FUEL PUMP JUST LET GO???? (corvette0096)
Never really have because of the fan on the car, and amps that make noises when u turn the car on.....

Change the fuel pump and relay at the same time, The relay is by the battery. As far as the one out of the GN, You will have to ask the dealer on that one.

First you need to determine what is broken.
Check spark. Use an old spark plug, any spark plug. Ground the threaded area and hook it up and crank the car and see if you have spark.
If you have spark, check fuel. Have somebody turn the ignition to run (don't start) and listen to the fuel pump - should come on for 2 seconds or so. Does it? Go to engine bring a rag. Wrap rag around schrader valve on the drivers side runner, depress button in middle. Does fuel come out?
i didnt do the srader valve or whatnot, but i did pull the pump out,,,,its dead...Now i dont know how to pull the damn old one out without ripping the Fuel Sock...Grrr ill just end up buyin a new one...prob i hope not..

Just for Future refrence...Buick Grand National Fuel Pumps are EXACTLY the same size, shape, connectors, etc.....tis a shame i left my VERY expensive Fuel pump in the buick lol...O well the one for the Corvette is 50 dollers plus 6 for the little fuel sock...Not to bad..2 bad its comin out of my damn paycheck says dad lol..O well...Guess thats why it was starting so bad huh...took forever to start rrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrbbbrrruummm... ya prob why huh...Guess i should have looked for the signs earlier on

Pics will be posted tonight
The pump i found out was bad becuase i have a little home made tester after i went through this with the buick...And nothing..nada nata thing...So i plugged in my old buick one,, bing we have liftoff...Now to go buy the new pump, install it and hope to god that the Relay is good.

Ok so i hear nothing through the pump, pump is def dead...Put the new one in...I hear this one kick on....and prime...Just NOthing still..Nada....Fuel Pump relay?
C4Dreams
Yes, the GN pump from '87 will work. You might have to snip your wires and make new connectors, but the pump will work and I think that one supports up to something around 450hp.
p.s.
In the early C4s the fuel pump will prime the system for about 4 seconds when you turn the key on. If you turn the key off you have to count to 10 and turn the key on again before it will prime a second time. If you turn it on during those 10 seconds it will not reprime the system.
It sounds like you aren't getting power to the pump or hte pump is dead for one reason or another. Before you go clipping things and throwing new parts out, find out why.
Disconnect the harness from the pump. Put a multimeter (+) lead on the switched 12v line and ground on the (-) one. A test light will also work. Have somebody turn the key on and watch the test light light up or monitor what voltage you get on the multimeter. As long as you get close to the same voltage you see on your dash your relay is most likely fine.
Have you checked your local parts stores (Autozone, Kragens, etc.) and see if they have a Fuel Pressure Guage you can borrow? Any local mechanic shops that will loan you one for a deposit? It will make things a lot easier if you can get your hands on one.
