Yeah if you're using stock heads there isn't much room for a bigger cam. The stock manifolds will mute a lot of the lope too. Little more info is needed.

I advise strongly against a gear drive.......you will like it for about four days and then want to remove it form the car. It is the whiny gift that never goes away and there is simply zero need for one.

A really lumpy cam won't run well (carbed or not) in an L83 and the "race car" gear drive sound will just make you a target for cops and squid racers.

Default L83 cam

Agree with the above comments. You might be able to get away with using an old school Comp 268HE cam 218 218 450 lift 110 lsa or Isky 264 Mega with 214 214 450 lift 108 lsa if you have a 700r4. The low first will help you. I had the 264 mega cam in my 76 L82 and it had a little chop to the idle. I have an 84 C4 but have dart heads and Isky solid lifter cam. Suggest you get your distributor recurved, true dual exhaust sans cat and try one of these old school cams. If you have the 5 speed transmission you might be able to get away with the old crane 274 HO6 circle track lift rules cam with 218 218 450 lift on a 106 lsa. Had this in my 84 for awhile but was a little too much with the 700r4. With a 3.73 rear it probably would have worked better. I have a friend with a C3 4 speed and 3.73 and a stock 8 to 1 crate motor and 3.73. 274H06 sounds bad azz out his side pipes.
