with the antenna down un screw the nut that is around the mast(the outer circle). Turn on the radio and it will come all the way out. It will probably hit the car - so have somebody catch it.
the mast is stuck in the up position, does that matter? if so how can
i get it back down? i've tried to force it back down, was afraid i would
screw something up.
m1948, cruise on down to your local Chevy dealer and pick up an antenna mast kit 29.00 It comes with the little tool to remove the antenna and installation destructions for the new one. Five minute job if your not in a hurry. Later 84 CF 91 ZR-1
My 89 garage queen had the same problem. I had a broken "ribbon" inside the motor unit and the darn thing would not go up or down. You will have to remove the antenna. You will also have to remove the motor to get to the broken piece of ribbon. This will take about and hour or two to do this. Send me an email and I will walk you through the steps to fix this "little problem". I used my Helm manual as a guide and it is still working after one year! I suggest you buy a replacement mast at your local GM dealer before you start this project. Regard, Sam
