1989 Corvette 6 spd manual some track driving. Motor is bone stock. Fuel pump suggestions. I replaced it earlier this year. A mechanic said it is NFG. Thank you all
I went through three a few months ago before I got a good one. Not sure what brand the local garage was putting in but I’m assuming it was AC Delco.

30+ year old wiring with several harness connectors can cause a voltage drop under load at the pump. If the pump has been replaced recently I would inspect, clean and reseat all of the connectors. I replaced my fuel pump wiring with an aftermarket harness kit and I can hear the difference in the pump at key on. My "failed" pump is still working great after five years.
I have always used AC-Delco parts for the most part. I hear more and more problems with new or re-built AC-Delco parts than we should NOT be hearing. I am using a WALBRO pump in my C3 and it works great and is nice and quiet. The guys at EFISYSTEMPRO are also a rep for the Walbro so you might get a deal from them.
The point made byRWDsmokeis very valid and I would verify that you have full battery voltage at the fuel pump connections. I would check the voltage at the fuel pump when I first install it. I would also get a new Fuel Pump Relay and replace that while you are installing a new fuel pump. Nothing worse than having a good pump that can't get the power it needs, replace the relay...
Many years ago I had a bad connection in my C4 that was making my 12 volt battery look like 10 volts to the operating systems of the Corvette. It made everything dimmer and slower, my radio would not even start up on that low a voltage. It is important to keep your battery is good operating order by performing annual maintenance on them. I simply remove them clean all the connections and then give them a good solid charge on a large battery charger and store them for the winter. I do record voltages and charge batteries in the interim as needed.. Batteries are critical so why not spend a few minutes and take care of them?
This is a great thread. I checked the voltage going to the pump it said 13.4 volts. So I have to believe the wiring is good. Interestingly enough the TunerPro RT says the FP has 7.6 volts. But, I did check the voltage and it is 13.4
But, great thread.
My 86 had guel delivery problems.
i bought a new relay at chevrolet, thinking if the first one lasted 20 years…..
when i got it home and opened the box, you guessed it, made in china.
i put it in and 5 years later, same fuel pump problem.
since I don’t throw much sway, i dug out the old relay.
the lid comes off.
the relay is adjustable, and the contacts are very small.
after spending a half hour learning, hooking up power and watching it work, using an ohm meter, i adjusted it so it operated every time. Using a point file. (Told u I don’t throw stuff out) I cleaned up the contacts
it’s back on the car.
Take a minute and measure the battery voltage and then again measure the battery voltage at the fuse panel. They should be the same or very close.
If the voltages are different then it is possible that your fusible links are getting corroded at their Isolated Post where they get battery power. This is a cause of low voltages inside the Corvette. It is easy to fix however!
Where does Tuner pro RT get the voltage reading from? How can it be this far off? How do we correct it?
The TunerPro program plugs into the ALDL.
I checked the voltage going to the pump. It is 13.4 same as the battery. So I am thinking the link is good. But, why TP says it is low , I don't know
I replaced my fuel pump less than a year ago.The oump still works great but now the fuel level sender doesnt work. You have a choice of buying a pump with the new sender or not. Up tp you.
