When i change the u-joins on the drive shaft must I rebalance the drive shaft with the new u-joints?
And with way do I put them in? Is the grease plug on the u-joints turnd in or out?
That grease plus is called a "zerk fitting". They are on the original OEM spicer u-joints our cars came with. If you install new u-joints that also have zerk fittings (most of us don't) install them with the fittings opposite each other on both ends.

You shouldn't have to rebalance anything. :)
Hey scorp, I learn something new every day, I did not know original OEM's had the zerk fittin.
fish, do you need a link for OE spicer joints or can you get them over there? with the new mods your planning i heavly suggest the spicer joints. in fact i'd make you buy them if i lived in sweden & could get you to :p: in all seriousness don't consider any side brands.
when you replace them in the half shafts you don't have to re balance the shafts, just press them in.
when you replace the main driveline you have to balance it after they are pressed in.

No you don't. The shaft is already balanced itself, as long as you're putting in like u-joints on each end it will be fine. Mine was smooth as silk at speed with new joints and no balancing.

My 85 did'nt have zerk fittings when new. Is this on later year vetts
Well i got GM stuff and they have the "grease" stuff on them.
How importand is it to install the drive shaft just like it whas.? I forgot to mark the damn thing :(
hmm..you had no vibrations at speed what so ever scorp? this is thr first time i've heard someone mention doing a driveline without balancing it, however if it works i wouldn't mind, you'd save some money. when did you change your U joints, how fast have you had the car & did you notice any vibrations at all? i've tried this on a truck driveline before & would up with vibrations afterword.
How positive are you that the original u-joints have the zerk fittings. I believe mine are the original, and I don't remember seeing the. My car is an '86. Does anybody know if there were changes, I know Scorp has an '87 and had them, 1SLOPOK said his '85 didn't have them???
Barrier
Lets put it this way.... going through my car's history papers I was the first person to ever remove the exhaust. I can definitely believe that is true with how nasty it was the first time I took it off. Also when I replaced my catalytic convertor the AIR pipe had never been cut on the cat and the pipe was not marred in anyway to show the clamp had been removed and replaced at ant point.
You have to pull the exhaust in order to get to the driveshaft to do the ujoints. The first time I pulled the driveshaft out the strap bolts on the u-joints were pretty damn rusty and stuck in place.
