If it runs with the injectors out of the intake and dies when the injectors pull back in you need more air. You need to open the throttle a little more until it will run. If you hold the throttle WOT you turn off the injectors since the car goes into clear flood mode. What happens when you hold the throttle at 1/8 open?

Since "holding the injectors up" isn't a diagnostic process that any of us are familiar with, if it were MY car, I'd put them in, put the MAF on and try to start it....then I'd go about investigating why it won't start;
Pull plugs; are they flooded? dry?
Shoot a little ether while cranking...does that help?
Are the injectors even firing when you drop them in? Is there a harness issue that you're "fixing" by pulling up on the injectors? (A bad connection?)

I "get it" why you're doing what you're doing, but you've proven the point, and learned a thing...so now stick the injectors back in and see why it won't start. The fuel going into the engine should be proportional to the air going in, regardless of what that amount is; this isn't a carburetor where you can "choke it" and make it too rich....the MAP and ECM should ensure that. So if there is a "lack of air", -not enough to idle the engine, opening the throttle is an instant and easy fix. If it still won't start, you need to find out why. Is it too rich/flooded? Or is it too lean/starving? Which is it?
