When I start my car, the lights on the telltale should briefly light up correct? Mine does not. All fuses in my fuse box on the passenger side door opening are good. I'm trying to diagnose my vette using the OBD1 port, but my check engine light won't light up because the panel isn't working. I took the telltale panel out, checked all the bulbs (good to go) and I even replaced the printed circuit board on the back because my original was looking really crusty. Still nothing.
If you've dealt with this issue or have any insight on what I can do to remedy this, would be GREATLY appreciated.
A little history on the car. I bought it Feb '21. Car had been sitting for several years. Currently my horn does not work, the wipers don't wipe (they just flutter), there is an aftermarket security system on the car (not in use), aftermarket radio. All of the dashboard switches next to the telltale panel (temp, volts, oil pressure, etc. all DO function as they should). Interior lights work, gauges work and light up. Power windows work, door locks only work about 10% of the time. Dash vents/blower fan all work. Power seats work. Side mirror motors do not. All exterior lights work. Radio antenna motor is bad so I unplugged the connector to it. Radio/speakers work. Have not tested the cig lighter plug.

I don't think the lights in my '87 flash on ACC or key on for that matter. The check engine and abs flash on key on, but not everything.
I think you're correct. Either way, turning the key to "on" or even starting my car will not activate the lights on my Telltale panel. When I engage the diagnose mode on my OBD1 port nothing lights up either.

Just checked my 85. Door open yellow security light flashes. Key on seat belt, service engine, and door ajar (my door was still open) come on. Engine start all clear.
So I finally figured out my problem. It wasn't the circuit "board". It wasn't a bad ground. After testing all the wires and bulbs, I found that the bulb pots (sockets) were "bad". I took some fine sand paper and cleaned the copper contacts in the pots and now everything lights up as it should. All the pots were like this. Glad it was an "easy" fix.

Thanks for reporting out on your solution. It is very helpful for the rest of us.
