It'd probably be more functional as a paper weight.

I took mine out a while back, too.
The car sounds so much better now, for some reason. From inside anyway. Has more of a rumble.
I'm still gonna replace the exhaust next year, though. Probably gonna do it the old fashioned way. Same way you're doing yours. On my back...

I always imagined that if the Air Foil did anything, it just unnoticeably promoted air flow direction towards the valve openings at the cost of the IAC's intake through its inlet.

Where IS the IAC air inlet opening in that foil?

Remember the spare tire played a part of the structural engineering to limit damage during a rear end collision. That is why the spare tire delete structural bar was put in place when the spare tire was eliminated. Just keep an eye open on the cars behind you if you have to stop suddenly.

How much additional protection does the airfoil contribute in the event of a front-end collision?

Safety first.
Its an air foil front end collision deterrent, I feel safer.

Where'd you pick up that tid-bit?
I think, unless you can show otherwise, that a better way to put it is: "The spare tires was there during crash testing. With out it, there may be slightly different rear crash results"....or something like that. IOW, I HIGHLY doubt that the tire was an engineered part of the impact plan.

Tom400cfi, I agree with the way you have stated it. It is NOT a structural component.

But its important to keep proper air pressure in spare to give proper protection if hit in rear !!!!!!!!
