I have an 89. One of the dash panels was cracked when I bought it, so I picked up a used dash display for parts. I put all new polarized films on all three panels and installed them into my unit. All the contacts and rubber blocks, etc were cleaned during reassembly. When I reinstalled it in my car, the center panel with the fuel gage was scrambled. I removed it, disassembled, cleaned again, reassembled, and reinstalled. Still scrambled. I then reinstalled my old panel and it worked fine.
Now, I've looked at ebay for replacement LCD panels, and they list the same part for 84-89. Are they the same part from 84-89, or is there something I'm doing/not doing to cause it to be scrambled?
Bryan is "the Batee.com guy" and he is the resident experton anything to do with the Digital dashboards. Bryan is a real gentleman and very helpful. He will fix your dashboard for you or sell you the parts you will need to replace on your dashboard.
He has many videos posted on how to fix your Digital Dashboard or the C68 Electronic A/C controller!
I've bought parts from Bryan and watched a lot of his videos, trying to get the c68 working properly again. (Heat works, now I need the AC to work)I know's he's trying to runa business and I really don't want to pester him with questions if it doesn't result in a sale.
I had a very similar issue with my center section after I replaced the polarizing film. Looked like it was in Klingon! I did troubleshooting test after troubleshooting test to try and figure out what was wrong. Brian was very generous and offerred his advice to me. In the end, I gave up and sent him the dash.
The final analysis-- I did not trim the polarizing film enough around the edge of the center panel and it was just enough to cause a slight misalignment of the connectors along the edge.
Your symptoms sound very familiar and you also just replaced the polarizing film. Might want to disassemble one more time (I'm sure you have done this a few times already ) and ensure that the film is trimmed right to the edge of the glass.

Hope this helps. I feel your pain.
That makes sense, I'll pull it out yet again and make sure the film isn't hanging over the edge. Thank you.
I emailed Bryan and he said that the speedo and center panel are interchangable from 85 through 89. The tach panels are different for each year. I thought his website had a page that showed the differences between the panels of different years, but I don't see it now.

Well this didn't help. I got to watching some of Bryan's videos the other day, and saw something I did wrong. The little flat spring that goes along the side of the panel to hold it to the side, I had it on the top of the panel holding it down, and so the panel was not in proper place. I moved the spring and everything is good now.
