Default 1986 Automatic Vert -- Looking for Crate Motor (Long Block)

My engine has significant blow-by the rings and the crank case is pressurized causing oil leaks. The idea of a short-block doesn't turn me on since the heads are old too. Looking for a direct drop in and my mechanic says that Jasper motors won't fit my application. Budget ~$ 5 - 6 K not including labor. Vendors out there?

I'm going through sparkys

Cool 3D Engine model

Will the heads accept the L98 intake bolt angle? Do the heads have dual valve cover provisions?
You may be better off ordering a shortblock and a known set of aftermarket heads that will fit if these dont.

2021 C4 of the Year - Modified Finalist
Default Engine

Ya know,
i have an 86.
it is a known fact that 1986 was a transitional year for chevrolet.
hour engine has a one piece seal and a right hand dipstick, but a flat tapet cam.
early 1986 cars had aluminum heads that proved to be problematic, and cracks formed when the engine was up to temp.
during this time, Chevrolet honored the warranties of all the owners with those aluminum heads by replacing those heads with rebuilt iron heads.
I have one of those cars.
when they released the convertible, some of the first ones had the crackable heads, and soon after the release of the convertibles, the 87 head was released for the convertibles, while the remaining coupes got iron heads.
sooo.
the valve seals in those months of figuring out cracking and performance, some of the rebuilt heads were assembled ahead of the production line for engine assy.
one of your dpark plugs is absolutely normal while the rest are fouled.
usually, piston rings all wear the same.
So before you drop the hammer and buy another engine, have someone replace all of your valve seals.
i bet you don’t need an engine.
i have a friend that ran a corvette wrecking yard and i bought several engines from him.
i found lots of assembly problems with all if them, including my own car.
my truck has an 89 corvette engine, and the spring dampers sometimes wipe out the seals!!!
see pic.

If you can find a ZZ4 crate engine, it's a drop-in. Basically the same engine as an 87-91 Vette.

Here is a Jegs/ATK engine I got for my TA project that after I tore into it to quick port the heads and swap the oil pans, never used. I like the BPE forged shorblock that I also have, tho gonna get a better block prob.

That Blueprint engine in the 2nd post should drop right in (check the intake bolt angles as recommended above) and run off the stock chip. A custom chip is recommended but the specs look pretty easy to live with. A Hot Cam’d anything will need a tune.

A ZZ4 is almost the same as the L98 engine you have, slightly different heads and cam, but close. I'd go that route.

stock intake manifold flows 200 cfm , those heads flow 252cfm. stock exhaust flows maybe 140 cfm ,those heads flow 207cfm @.5". Ported intake manifold or aftermarket and headers to get that HP. I don't know about ECM
