Default Headers - 88 L98

All,

Read the archives until 2 a.m. last night and I still have some questions (sorry). I plan on getting the Hooker SC 2149s (1 5/8). Here's my questions:

1) What is the lift/duration on the stock cam?
2) I cannot see for the life of me how long tube headers are gonna mate up with the stock cats. If I get a new Y-pipe, where do the cats go or am I majorly confused?
3) Don't use the supplied gaskets/bolts? Why? Felpro gaskets I understand but the bolts?????
4) Will my Alt and A/C supports no longer fit? My neighbor can help me make new ones, no problem there but just wanna know in advance.
5) Is there a nut for the O2 sensor or do I have to weld one on?

Thanks all and Happy Holidays !!! Don't spend too much and enjoy yourselves! :cheers: :cheers: :cheers: :cheers: :cheers: :cheers: :cheers:

OK, #1-don't know....
#2-Get the new front y-pipe, it then mates up to the main center cat, and you don't use the precats-it will still pass tailpipe smog no problem without the precats. If they do a visual you have to hope for luck.....or a reasonable smog tech that knows you're not the smog police....
#3-I'd go with smaller head bolts, it's a lot easier to get a socket or box wrench on them, and go for the longer bolts; but you'll still need to retighten them several times.
#4- The altenator bracket will need to be "custom bent"....a torch and a bench vise and a big hammer! Also you'll need to custom bend the air pipe that goes down to the main cat. My AC support for the 86 needed no mods-not sure on yours.
#5-they come with an O2 sensor bung in the hmmm, want to say #7 tube-but it's best to drill a hole and weld in a bung down in the collector, and then change to heated O2 sensor. (there's a write up in tech tips on the heated ones.)
Alos....make a heat shield for the brake booster! I'm not the only one that melted a hole in it....and a mini starter and heat shield it too. Good luck!

All I have is specs on the '88 cam with 1.5:1 rockers:
Lift=.410"/.423" (int/exh),
Dur=211/219 deg @.050” (int/exh),
LSA=117deg.

Get a new front Y with the headers which eliminates the precats, and the Y will mate to the cat.
