Me and my friend recently decided to try and fix his 91 c4. It doesn't start and I assume its the vats system since the security light flashes. He thinks it just battery and engine issues. It clicks when we turn the key along with the lights starting to flash and we even got the pop-ups to open. But it can't do anything if it isn't connected to a jump. Here's a link to a video of it. Thank you have a nice night.
Each time the light's flash and starter tries is that you cycling the key several times, if so there maybe other problems like motor lock up But let's not fall down that road yet. Normally when Battery is weak or poorly connected the starter is more of a buzz and flicker of light's.
. You are past any problems with VATs because it attempts to start if VATS was disarming there would be No Cranking attempt, if for some reason you cause the VATS to disable car just wait about 10+ minutes before another try.
VATS will stop the car from attempting to start. When you turn the key everything just goes dead. No click, nothing, sort of like somebody disconnected the battery when you turned the key into the start position.
I can't watch the video, but based on your post and the responses it sounds like you have a bad connection. First thing to do is clean both battery connections, then clean the connections at the starter and where it counds to the frame and engine. Make sure your battery is fully charged, bettter yet, take it to a parts store and have it load tested.
I just had a problem with mine after washing it. Cranking was “odd” and labored but luckily it fired up. I took it home, popped the hood, and found the main positive block below the hood latch wet. You can see in the pic below some corrosion and rust. I cleaned up the terminal and put it all back together really tight and it is fine now. Also found the hood latch there full of water and cleaned out it’s drain slot.
I post this because I agree with others, look for bad connections (both positive and ground) and be 100% sure battery is good. This includes main engine ground and positive at starter.
