Default Help finding brake light switch

Where to find Brake Light Switch?

Hey everyone. I have a 1996 LT4 Corvette. I recently had an issue pop up where none of my brake lights are working. I have got the issue down to it being a bad brake light switch (also called a stoplight switch). The problem is, I can't find one anywhere. I have called several dealerships and scoured the internet looking for one. I'm surprised cause they seem like common points of failure but they seem to be discontinued. Has anyone else fixed this issue recently? Is there a part from another car that would work?

I was a little shocked that it didn't come up in normal auto parts stores, I did locate one

You and me both! I never expected that to be a hard one to find. But hey that is exactly what I need! You are a lifesaver. Maybe I can safely get back on the road now.

That SLS that's offered by 'CORVETTE PARTS/DAVIES' is I believe just an F-BODY & other GM SLS. Try changing this GM # 25551819 at your local NAPA or favorite auto parts store!

*** A GM 10170430 ACD D1541D on a 'local' GM dealers shelf or ACD jobber might be less expensive. Changes to the same NAPA or other AP store. Seems it's a newer GM # for the other I mentioned.

The '93 + from GM was a combination that you'll see here but that F-body I believe should match your needs. From NAPA or your favorite AP Store I'd guess maybe $15 max and no shipping = maybe less!

If you're an eBay kinda guy check the connector indexing of this one and spend 10$.

If you have the FSM connectors are 8A-202-25

Finally got around to replacing the brake light switch. And to my surprise, that was not the issue. After some troubleshooting, I figured out the issue is caused lowering the steering wheel all the way up and all the way down. Any one had this issue?

An explanation would be the directional switch, stop lights actually pass through the directional switch. A bad harness down the column maybe. In the FSM 8A-110-0 for diagnostics.

What did you actually buy for a SLS? It would be good reference information for others. '93 - '96 owners could benefit from 'confirmed' information.

I'll check out the diagnostics. The part I used and can confirm works like the original is GM # 25551819. I got it at NAPA. Their part number for it is MPE SL199SB.
