I read your sig, and noticed you have the exact setup I want for an exhaust system. I haven't found anyone else with B&B Tri-Flows, and (TPIS) long tube headers on this forum; only guys with Corsa's. Right now I'm running the B&B Tri-Flows with the 3" X-Pipe, and was wondering how bad is the resonance in your car when just cruising around town? I can't imagine how MEAN it sounds, but I hope you can describe also how loud it sounds? If you could also list the procedure you took for installing these on an Automatic, that'd be great! I have a 96 A4 btw. :flag Thanks man!
I wish I could say I did the install but it was my brother-in-law who did it. I was there for most of the work but basically just sat around and watched.
In order to mate the TPIS Headers to the exhaust, he had to cut off a portion of the Tri-Flow (on the right side) since the headers are longer than the old manifolds and catallytic converter. You will also need a couple of 8" long (or so) straight pipes (or bullet cats) going from the TPIS collectors to the exhaust.
As for resonance, Most of mine disappeared when we replaced the 2.5" resonator with the Dr Gas 3" X-Pipe. There is still a little bit in the cockpit but it is no longer annoying. It disappears when I'm at about 2200 rpm's. Since I'm never under 2200 rpm, it's never a problem.
I can tell you right now you will love this combination. It has a very throaty idle (very big blockish) and sounds menacing at WOT.
Thanks for the reply bro! I have bad resonance now, with the stock exhaust and X pipe... thats why I was wondering if it got worse. I love the noise, but want to make it sound menacing outside the car. I thought Bullet Cats wouldn't fit with an automatic transmition? I thought u had to delete the cats no matter what?
