In 2002, the only 17" wheels that came on any Firebird (including Trans Am) were 17x8.5 with 50mm offset. Those will fit a C4. But they never came with 275-width tires, and those tires would be way too wide for an 8.5" wheel. The proper tire size for those wheels on a C4 would be 245/45/17 or - if you like the balloon tire look - 255/45/17.
The Camaro SS wheels are 17"x9" with 275/40/17 tires. For a couple of years they made some that look exactly like the Corvette A-molds. They fit fine.
I am not sure about all the optional wheels/tires were available on the F-body. As MatthewMiller states, the 8.5" rim is too small for a 275/40/17 tire.
For example, in the picture below my '96 CE has the 17"x9" Camaro SS wheels with 275/40/17 tires on it.
I guess QCvette answered it, YES, they will fit. I measured my 245/50 16 on the vette to a set of ss 275/40 17 i have and they are identical. Tires that is. 25.25 od and 10.75 wide.

I think you're missing the point. QCvette is talking about wider wheels than you're asking about, and 275s are approved for that width (just barely). They are not approved for the 17x8.5 wheels you're asking about. As I answered, the wheels you're asking about will fit your C4, but the proper tire size for them is 245/45/17.
What is a readily availabe 16" tire that i can put on the stock rim. Around $100 and available at stores.
John, what size stock rims do you have? 8.5" or 9.5"? First, let me say that I didn't even think to ask this earlier. For those Trans Am wheels to fit, you might need spacers around 3/4". Even if the F-body wheels fit without rubbing, they will be sitting in 18mm further than stock 16x8.5 turbine wheels, so they will look goofy without spacers.
That said, if your stock wheels are 16x8.5, just go with 245/50/16 tires. They will fit and look good and there are some decent tire choices in that size. Probably the cheapest decent option will be Riken Raptors, which are easily available at Tire Rack for $113. Not sure who else carries them. Looks like Discount Tire has the Kumho Ecsta PA31 for $99, which is a great price on a decent tire. If you have 9.5" wheels, it's going to be a challenge because the 245/50 tires aren't recommended for more than 8.5" rim widths.
