Will ARP 134-3601 head bolts https://www.summitracing.com/parts/arp-134-3601 work on my '94 with stock heads? I've been reading that they both will and won't fit so I just want to be sure. Also, 6 point or 12 point? Personal preference or do you find 12 point a necessity when it comes to head bolts? Thanks
I thought the decision was based on a choice of which bolt head you get. I am using the ARP 12 point socket Head bolts on my 427 and the only negative is when you need to work on anything on my motor with ARP 12 point sockets is finding a 12 point socket the right size.
They sell entire engine bolt kits and those are really great as they save you some money. I bought the kit for the 427 BB in 12 point and have been extremely happy with the hardware.
When in doubt why don't you just call ARP directly and ask them? That would likely be the best way to get the correct answer. I am surprise that the Summit tech's were not able to help you identify the correct parts.
You get a better torque reading with a 12 point. Some will argue that, but a 12 point on a 12 point fits better. (Less slop) It also gives you more room to work because of the smaller head for the same sized 6 point fastener. I used 12 points on my heads because of the extra room installing in the car.
FYI ARPs website shows all their products along with dimensions for all of them. Very useful.
My entire engine is 12point ARP stuff. Worth every penny.
