my shoppe said they are the best heads. He did some serious porting on a set, no welding but heavy porting / big valves, and they flowed 322 cfm @ .500 lift. Mighty impressive.
Unfortunately, Canfield doesn't produce their LT-1 castings anymore so your only luck is to find a used set. The one's I picked up were ported by Tom @ Champion Cylinder Heads in Fla. and flow right at 312cfm @ .500
The fastest LT1 cars seem to be using AFR heads. I haven't read about anyone really doing well with the Canfields, but not many of those heads were produced. For a stock displacement motor the factory LT1 casting will suffice. For larger motors (383-396ci) that require more air the AFR's will shine. Your choice should be based on what your goals are with the car, because the are always compromises when it comes power output.
i already made my choice 2 years ago and havent regretted buying the canfields, they havent skipped a beat. i was just wondering if anyone else has used them and what results they got
Actually from what I've seen, most of the real fast LT1 cars are running Canfields, just obvisouly there will be more cars running AFR's since they made more and are still selling them. The heads I have came off a 409ci LT1 that with a Y-Trim Vortech went mid 9's @ 150mph in a '95 T/A
I should have my new motor in this weekend, and maybe cranked up the week after, so I'll let you know how the head perform on a stock bottom ended LT1 with a LT4 Hotcam.
cant wait to hear about your car! could you post some links of these cars with the canfields. im building a new motor and want to want to compare combinations. thanx
