So I swapped a LQ 4 in my 85. I'm using the truck power steering pump and installed a low pressure valve for the rack and pinion figuring the truck pump for the truck steering box runs higher pressure than a rack and pinion. The steering feel is numb at best; was not with the L98 pump. I noticed the pump fluid gets milky looking when running but is normal when not. Looks like pump is cavitating, bled the steering numerous times to no avail> Not sure if pressure is still too high or why it is aerating the fluid. What have others used for this swap and anyone swapped the pressure relief valve for a low pressure valve? Thanks

LQ4 was from what specific truck? Do you have the actual engine ID? How about a VIN of the truck removed from?
What front accessory drive are you using now? What diameter pulley?
I believe you ID the actual pump you have, pulley diameter and what is the rest of the accessory drive THEN contact TURN-One and ask for a suggested orifice/valve configuration.
I've never heard of needing to correct pressure in the power steering when doing an LS swap. I'm willing to bet you need to put the pump back to factory spec and then reinstall. I know this is from a rack car, but I'm using a stock LS1 Fbody pump on my LQ9 swapped 84 and it works great with the factory pulley. Lots of people on here have done LS swaps using truck pumps and they just use them as is.
One question though. Using truck accessories how much clearance do you have from the crank pulley to the rack? I have read that the truck stuff fits but that has got to be tight.
I used the truck acc on my swap, and it is tight if you move the engine forward one notch of the adjustable swap plates. I had to clock the low side clamp to not hit the pump, and the belt just barely slides in.
