I was once told that there are no dumb questions, but I might have proven that wrong. I have a 1990 base model that the previous owner had carb swapped, and cut a bunch of wires. I'm having some dashboard electrical problem and everything points to a grounding issue. There are a handful of cut solid black wires that I've found and wondering if they are ground wires. are all solid black wires ground wires? even better if someone has a "wire color decoder" that they would be willing to share.
i shoulda taken care of this while the motor was out... oh well
I know very little about automotive wiring so all ideas, suggestions, concerns, pecan pie recipes, questions, recommendations are welcome
hope yall can help
thanks
An electrical supplement for your particular year car is probably the best bet, it will be color keyed to each wire as things changed year to year. I can not say off the top of my head that all black wires are grounds though...
With cobbled up wiring your at the mercy of the guy before you. Are they original or added? Most GM ground wires are predominantly black some may also have a stripe. You really need factory service manual section 8A . There is a subsection showing ground locations and diagrams of what's grounded by the different wires.
