Default Window Regulator

For a 1985 C4:

My windows go up and down ... slowly. I think the motors are worn out.

1) Can one simply get the motors and replace them or does the entire assembly need to go?

2) Are there compatible interchangeable window regulators/motors from other GM models that have the same wiring and connectors as for my C4 that I can use?

Thanks for the input.

Can I simply swap out the motor or do I have to install the entire apparatus?

Remove the old grease from the window raising components and door lock mechanisms. I use a hot air gun to soften it up which makes it easier to remove from the tracks and linkages. The old grease is frequently hard enough to no longer lubricate but actually inhibit movement of the parts that should move easily.
Once clean then you can replace the grease and your windows, door locks and other parts can move freely and use less power doing so. It made a huge difference in both my C3 and C4.

Thanks CT. That is great advice. The windows also rattle quite a bit so I am sure there some door internals that need to be tightened up. I will give it a shot.
