Recently received a new convertible top for a B-day present... Unfortunately it did not come with installation instructions. Searched high and low on the web and found only two articles - one covering 'early' corvettes, the other, on this forum, is sketchy but references a video by John's Corvette Care - apparently out of business.
Can anyone point me in the direction of detailed remove and replace instructions for the new top? It's a factory replacement - plastic rear window.
Re: C4 Convertible Top Replacement - HELP! (lrslade)
Mid America used to sell a replacement top video for the do it yourselfer. It is a pretty in depth procedure as you have to remove all the rubber from the top. I did mine once, but would really suggest taking it to a professional and letting them install it. Mine came out OK at best. Sold the car and the top was still on it though.
Re: C4 Convertible Top Replacement - HELP! (lrslade)
I did mine without any formal instructions. I did experience on problem. It was very difficult to remove the weather stripping without damaging it. The cost of new
weather stripping will set you back some. I saved moved most of the pieces and could repair what I damaged with black RTV sealant. The other thing that you have to be aware of is centering the top on the bows. When you remove the old top, there should be some scribed center scratches on the front and rear bows. Just remember always start glueing from the center and work the top out on both sides. Don"t work from one corner and work inward.
Removing the head liner is a bit of a pain, but once you study it you will see that removal is straight forward.
Good Luck

Re: C4 Convertible Top Replacement - HELP! (lrslade)
I bought the John's video and was able to install my top with good results. Its not that hard. As far as results go they will vary, but I took my time and was pleased. If your willing to pay for blank tape and shipping I'd dub a copy for you. One thing make sure the top is warm when you put it on. I set mine on the driveway in the sun while I took the old one off.
Re: C4 Convertible Top Replacement - HELP! (Rick86)
Rick86 - thanks for the reply. I'm pretty committed to doing it myself, I really just need the tools and the instructions. I'll send you a blank video and a return envelope, or if it's easier for you I'll 'borrow' it and send it back when complete. Your call. Thanks also for the advice on the temperature - makes good sense, and can be hard to come-by this time of year!
Send me your address if you decide to dub the tape.
