Default Auto AC issue

Hi, I hope someone can help me with an AC problem on a 1990 C4 with the C68 Electronic AC. First off there are no codes on the AC screen and the green indicator lights are on steady, my problem is when the AC is set to auto it blows cool for around 15 minutes on a fan setting of 5 and then in a big rush the fan goes to full force and blows hot air. I can shut it off, turn it to manual AC or just vent and back to Auto but nothing will make the clutch reengage on the compressor EXCEPT, parking it for a couple hours then the AC will work again. Now if I start out with the AC on the manual or recirculating setting it blows very cold my whole commute for about 40 minutes until I park it in the garage.
Is the Automatic AC controlled in any way by the ECM? I ask because I’m having some other issues that lead me to believe I could be having an ECM problem. Thank you for any help you may be able to offer.
