Default Ecm Chip

Hi,
I am in need of some help, I have an 1986 Vette automatic 5.7 well I was checking things out and saw it had a Super Chip in it that didn't look so good. I am in need of another one. How do I go about this? The super chip is out and I had a chip made, but the memory part doesn't look so good. Does anyone have one I can purchase or tell me how to get one?
Thanks,
Jim

Jim

What exactly are you asking? Are you looking for a memcal because your's doesn't look so good? Somebody removed the eprom from the memcal for whatever reason. Who cares what it looks like assuming it runs without setting codes (along with G1 adapter and ARAR eprom)?

Are you seeking a replacement for the old ADS superchip eprom instead?

If you go to the trouble to get another memcal, you might as well have it's eprom programmed as desired and ditch the G1 adapter. Memcals are not difficult to find.

As of now, it appears that you have a G1 adapter with a 1989 ARAR bin that you intend to use in your 1986 car (which will work, but may not be ideal timing-wise). How does it run now with this combination? Have you tried it already? Confused.

Maybe you could just buy a new Hypertech Chip... they make 2 different versions one requires a thermostat change I think they are only different from stock when in wide open throttle mode. For 86 they made 4 different chips Auto. vs 4+3 and Aluminum Heads vs Iron Heads... I hope this helps...

I'm guessing they removed the factory chip for some reason? You might could find someone selling the factory piece with a factory chip from an 86 and put that into your computer and go back to stock. I believe it may have to match up what transmission you have, i.e. AT or manual. Though not sure on that, you have to search around on that.

If you just want to replace that mod chip that's on the green board and go back to factory, Get a programmable chip from Moates and put the factory .bin or whatever it's called onto the new chip.

You can get a new chip, and a device to reprogram it. I put an aftermarket chip in mine as I needed to mod it some in the tune regarding fuel to bring the BLM's a little closer to 128. And I slightly lowered the coolant fan turn on so the coolant fans would turn on a little sooner. And I removed the VATS in the chip. I also put in a spark advance table from an Iron head L98 Camaro as I have some knock counts when hitting the gas.

Some things to check out:

Here's a couple of places to get .bin files. Think of .bin files as the operating system of the chip. You'll have to search around to figure out what the correct .bin file is for your 86. For example, my 89 .bin file is ARAP.

I believe this may be the chip, but you'd have to search around:

This shows where the factory chip is supposed to go:
