I am looking into engine options for my 1993 corvette. Current engine is 180k miles and almost using more oil than gas at this point lol. I was curious on if anyone had suggestions for aftermarket parts to build an engine that will get me to 400whp? I currently have long tube headers and 1.6rr on my motor that I will transfer over to the next build. Is 400+ whp worth the time and money on an lt1? or should I start researching doing an LS swap? Thanks.
You might want to check out Lloyd Elliots website or give him a call. He’s got heads and cam grind packages that will get you 430+ for very reasonable prices. He does port work on the LT1 intakes as well. He’s extremely knowledgeable with the LS engines as well. I’m NOT a customer of his yet but I emailed him recently regarding some optispark questions and he was great. IMO, the LT1 would be great with a rebuild and something like what he’s got to offer. Swapping an LS is a great upgrade with a little more power potential depending on how much fitting, fabrication, engine management, and tuning you want to get involved with. The amount of support with the aftermarket for doing so makes it a lot more plug and play than a complete Frankenstein fabrication that it once was.

I know a lot of people here will disagree with me, but I would never entertain the idea of a performance build LT1 in today's day in age. Pick any LS, I mean any. Even a 4.8L with a cam swap can make 400 whp. Obviously a 6.0L would do better but you get my point. You can meet your power goals for under $2K and that includes buying a Holley ECU with new harness. Then you can sell off your old parts and by the end probably be under $1K in total cost.
Take a look at my build thread. I've been driving around a 500 hp LQ9 in my 84 the last few weeks. It's not a super low budget but certainly didn't cost a lot.
