What is this fitting for and does it go to the filter side?

Im probably wrong but it almost resembles the line that goes under the TB to heat things up?
They break real easy like that over the yrs they corrode so bad they are tough to loosen

look by your fuel filter its the union that connects the rear fuel line to the line going to the TB

It is by the filter. What is the point of the union joint. Why cant it just plug into to the filter?
