Default 85 window motor

All of the motors for sale for my car have a 9 or 12 tooth gear. My factory one is 22. Anyone run into this issue?

The original window regulator design used on the 84-85 is vastly inferior to the later design. The newer-style regulator used in the 86-96 can be easily installed in the 85, you just need to drill two additional holes in the bottom of the door panel, which is easy since they're fiberglass (use a brass drill bit).

Correction: 1984-1986's came with the original ribbon style regulators. 1987 and up were equipped with the improved scissors style regulators..

So are you saying that you have ordered the correct motor for the 84-85's (GM 22039707) and the tooth count is off?

Default Teeth

I would like to order a motor but they all have less teeth. That could be a big problem.

Could it be that a previous owner before you stuck an incorrect motor in there, and it just happened to work for some period of time? I ask that because the ribbons for 1984-86 all have the same tooth count. This is proven by the fact that they all take the same ribbon, and the tooth count doesn't vary.

If I were in your shoes, I would order the correct motor (mentioned above) and a new replacement ribbon. You will remove any doubt everything is correct.
