Just putting this info out there. I'm attempting to re-gear my Dana 44 with the Mopar P5007043 4:10 gear set. I've got the new bearing and shim installation kit XL-1074-1, supposedly made for the 85-96 Vette D44 . But the shims in the kit look nothing like what's in my diff. They look more of what's used on a straight axle D44 - where the shims sit on the (outer) race side of the bearing, instead of the between the carrier and cone of the bearing.
So Denny's Driveshafts to the rescue. Looks like I need Dana/Spicer 72922-1x for my pinion shims. The carrier/ring shims take Dana/Spicer 706757x (with a Corvette specific cover gasket) or 701005x (w/o)
The bearing/shim installation kit doesn't include the side yoke (stub axle) bearings or seals, but I already knew that. Dana/Spicer 566002 bearing and Timken 473227 seals. The Mopar gears use a crush sleeve for preload, so I'm good there.
If your Dana 44 had 3.45,3.54 or 3.73’s I would be happy to buy a prime set to help ease that $$$$ bite$$$$ for the 4.10’s project 😝 please PM me if this applies.
GOD bless ,
Robert
