1990 LCD issues
I recently purchased a 1990 corvette that had been sitting for many years. I rebuilt the fuel system, cleaned all the injectors, replaced some relays, rebuilt the ignition switch and got it running.
I then turned to the instrument panel to see what gages were working and most were not. The LCD screen was burnt and the tach was bouncing all over. I purchased a rebuilt kit from Batee.com and rebuilt the LCD screen and the some soldered components. Hooked everything back up and LCD would come on for about a second and then go off. I then sent off my IP to Batee to get it tested and everything checked out fine. I then purchased some crimp connectors for the IP connecter and got those replaced. I now have all my gages and tach working but still no LCD screen. I cleaned up all the grounds. Driver feet, passenger feet, 2 below battery, bellhousing, above the oil filter, passenger side frame rail but still same result.
I have an aftermarket stereo that current doesn’t work. I pulled the radio fuse to see if something weird was happening there and no change to the LCD display. I pulled the CCM and checked power and ground to it as well as continuity from CCM connector to IP connecter and all those checked out.
At key on the LCD back lighting comes on and all the display is lit up but this only stays for about a second.
What happens at key on
Then I would expect the normal display to come on but it all goes away and about every 15 seconds “inst range” will blink.
Then during key off, I will get a quick blip of the display like I would expect it before all the power turns off.
What happens at key off
The mileage on the odometer even matches close to what is on the title.
I have tried to check codes but I’m not getting a readout on my LCD.
Im not sure on next steps at this point. The car runs and drives fine. I have been on 30+ minute drives and no issues, just have to check speed via a phone app and fill up with gas often because I don’t know how much is in the tank.
Any help is appreciated.
