I have 1996 Grand sport c-4 with an LT-1 300 hp with a problem on acceleration normally when the throttle is pushed down for passing it will kick down and accelerate with no problem although occasionally when I kick it down (I.E.) to pass it will act like it is starving for fuel and just wont accelerate it acks like a flutter missing type of sound with no back fire or popping with no power for lack of a better term. my first thought was it was fuel possibly the filter ( will check that ) but wondering if anyone has encountered that as it may be electrical as well. any thoughts would be helpful Thank You Dan Zilla
I had a similar problem on my '86. It would be fine for the first 30 minutes of driving and then the problem would get bad. Over time it got worse and eventually after 5-10 minutes it would start starving for fuel on anything other than slight acceleration.
My car had been sitting for years before I bought it, and was severely neglected, so it might be totally unrelated to your problem, but it turned out that debris in the tank was clogging up the strainer on the fuel pump. They would settle back down when the car was shut off and then get sucked back against the strainer again after a few minutes of driving. I cleared out the debris and installed a new strainer, which solved the problem. It's running great now. The debris could be dirt, or maybe rust. In my case it was rust so I'll have to replace the tank for peace of mind sometime in the future.
Other things you could check in your case would be fuel pump, filter, injectors and ignition. You'll want to figure out some way to determine if it's lack of fuel or lack of spark that's causing it. Hooking up an air/fuel gauge will help a lot.
