I deleted my smog junk and also a/c and did not have any problems with timing. Later went to a carb set up and could easily set my timing. Plenty of 84 xfire experts on the forum that will chime in.

The air pump and all its associated items can be removed easily. I’m not 100 percent sure if the 84 had the air tubes welded onto the manifolds or not. They will need to be plugged. You will have to also plug the the small pipe coming off the side of the catalytic converter. A smog pump delete bracket is available from many venders. I personally find them ugly. I plan on gutting my factory pump when I do the same to my car.
