My question is WHY? If I'm travelling down a highway, why would I GAS if someone is passing me? In February, I did a 14,000 km trip through four provinces and twenty-five states and not once did anyone "flash to pass" me.
Some of you all have never flashed your lights to alert someone or let them know they can go? Thanks for the dumb answers, guess thats what the internet is for.

The dumb thing is doing what you describe. Do you really think the average intelligent person is going to trust someone that "they can go"? That's what traffic laws are for. Wait for the dotted line, check YOURSELF that it is safe to pass and make your move quickly and safely. Your "permission" is not required.
You have never flashed your lights at someone? If "flash to pass" was beyond your understanding, I apologize for using the incorrect term.
My question remains: IS THERE A WAY/MOD TO FLASH FRONT LIGHTS?

Pretty sure the person who doesn't understand is the OP. See post #3.

When it comes to dumb answers, you will get plenty of them on here, especially from our neighbor from up North! On a 2 lane road, I would flash to pass a semi-truck just to let them know I'm passing! Also, if a semi-truck passed me I would flash to let them know they have cleared me !! Courtesy, something a lot of people know nothing about anymore!

That's a very difficult 'TO DO' (day light hours) in a C4 or most others with 'retractable' headlamps! A later model with 'retractable' headlamp optioned car w/DRL it might flash some lamp but NOT 'High/Low'! Has absolutely nothing to do w/COURTESY!! A 'Northern Neighbor' has absolutely nothing to do with it!!!

I only did this at night, as a safety measure and not in my current Corvette. I had a 66 in my younger years and drove on a lot of 2 lane highways after dark. I don't drive after dark now unless I absolutely have to. I don't know why you would want to do this in the daytime! The neighbor up "North" always seems to have a snarky comment that has no bearing on the OP question! Like I said, courtesy is hard to come by today!

Reason: add information
Is there a “mod” to add flash to pass on a C4 Corvette? 1995 to be exact. I assume this is not a factory thing, if it is, mine is busted!
thanks
By the way, my 2014 Camry has the flash-to-pass feature, as did my 2007 Camry. That seems to be a feature on foreign cars, I don't know about American cars.

Hilarious dude! So you think a professional truck driver needs you to let him know when he can pull in. How precious! I can just see it now at an accident investigation. Police Officer: "Why did you pull out when that other car was coming"? You: "The guy in front of me "flashed me it was ok."
Actually flashing to pass is also used to get dumbasses out of the left lane when you are going faster than they are. However, in my neck of the woods, they just give you the blank stare and slow down even further. They have no idea that it is one of the basic courtesys of the road.

Yes, it is common coutesy practice on highways in the lower 48. Somewhat of a professional courtesy to fellow truckers. BTW, the only time, if not to let okay to pull back over in front, I flash a headlight is to let oncoming traffic know there is an LEO down the way that they are about to meet.....slow down to avoid a ticket. Also, years ago, oncoming truckers would hold up the "V" fingers to alert sometimes. If you hold up your hand in the windshield with your hand opened to the side and do a rowing motion it means let it roll, no LEO's in front and clear to move on down quickly. Ahh, such memories of times past. Of course, so much of the younger generations are quick to discount the tried and proven of the older generations.
In the USA it is generally normal... you flash to say move the F over. You also flash if someone is trying to squeeze in front of you and that is saying "proceed, you have room"
On the 66 mentioned in this thread the headlights and the flip motors are on separate switches. You rotate the lights up with a switch, turn the lights on and off with another. That was nice... basically when you are in traffic you can leave the lights up but off... then flash as needed.
C4, flash to pass means just turn the lights on. The flash part is the difference between lights on and off and there isn't a bigger change than rolling the lights over. It's better than a normal car honestly
