Default Help me spec out my L98

Goal: 335crank hp.

I run the car in champ series; these are endurance races (16hours+). I'm currently running an LT4 but would shed serious points (to be spent on other upgrades) if I swapped to an L98.

I'm looking to build a rock solid short block running the stock TPI setup that can meet my power needs.

I can select whatever I want to the pistons but want to run premium fuel (93 octane) so no stupid high compression ratios.
Stroke has to remain the same.
I would *like* the cam to stay the same, but something close to stock w/o any lump would suffice.
Heads can be gone through but must use stock heads.

So bore, deck heights, CR, etc, are all open game.

Is this do-able?

Can you change the connecting rod length?

It won't matter as far as your power goals but a really long rod like 6.125, 6.200 or 6.250 will help flatten the TQ curve after peak giving you a couple hundred RPM over rev with the TPI induction.... as well as lightening up the bob weight which will help the engine accelerate off the corner and engine brake in the corner better. Just one of the little tricks we use in limited class oval track engines when rules don't specify rod length. 6.125 has the largest selection of shelf pistons as it's a common 383 (3.75x6.00= 1.125 CH) piston. 6.200 is more limited as it's a 396 (3.875x6.00= 1.007 CH) piston. 6.250 is a custom 1.00 CH piston.

335HP should be pretty easy with the right camshaft.... I personally use Jones Cam Designs.

Depending on weather the rules allow You to change the Block a Truck Vortec 1996 to 2001 will have a 4 Bolt Main and will allow allow all the L98 parts Heads Cranks Cams Lifter etc to bolt right in. L98s were avalable with both Iron and Aluminum Heads.
