I have an 85 Coupe that needs to have new mufflers. It currently has stock type mufflers and I am looking to upgrade to a slightly more deeper sounding muffler. I don't want to really change the interior sound level very much but would like to get a little better exterior sound.
I've researched this subject and kind of narrowed it down to either a Flowmaster Performance muffler (as shown in the MidAmerica and Corvette Central catalogs) or a Magnaflow (in the Corvette Central listed as their High Flow Muffler with LT-1 tips). There's an obvious price difference between the two but I need to know more. Any advice you can give about sound, quality and performance would be appreciated.
Re: Flowmaster v. Magnflow mufflers???? (vettelover1985)
Are you still running cats? Regardless I feel the Magnaflows will be more to your liking as you do not like resonance. Good luck and look at http://www.big exhaust.com to see if their pricing is better. :seeya

I have the same question. I am trying to decide between theFlowmasters and the Magnaflows (also interested in the Monza). I don't want to lose any low end torque. I can live with little resonance but how much are you talking about with the Flowmasters.
At 60-80mph in your year Vette I would say a considerable amount. Your 88 has no resonator so it will be louder than an LT-1. On my Tahoe the resonance finally got to me and I replaced the Flowmasters w/ stock exhaust. I'm now going with a Magnaflow cat-back. :seeya
I have Magnaflows and love them. I know some guys who have taken their flowmasters off for these. They look great and give a nice deep rich sound. Id recommend them to anyone. Good Luck
