i recently bought an 89. the front brakes do nothing. i can get fluid thru the bleeder with a vacuum pump, nothing comes thru with the pedal, it won`t even go all the way down. no problem in back. i put new calipers in front. do i need a master cylinder?
sounds like a plumbing issue, as you should be able to depress the pedal the whole way with a front bleeder open.
to isolate the master, have someone depress the oedal while you crack the front nut at the master. just be sure you tighten the nut before they release or you my allow air into the master. if the pedal goes to the floor u know its not the master. You can crack the front lines where they meet the rubber lines doing the same thing as s test to isolate the diagnosis.
i took the line all the way out and the pedal will not go to the floor, looks like i`ll be getting a master cylinder. thanks for the great advise
fantastic wont be long till u r on the road 👍
you will need to “bench bleed” the master. have u done that? you basically circulate the fluid from the mc reservoirs out the two fittings back into the reservoirs, ising a huge screw driver (preferably phillips or robertson) to manually plunge the master cyl piston. there are kits for it at autozone etc that will have little plastic fittings that will match the master cyl female threaded ports. and hose to run up and into the reservoirs. check out youtube if you havnt done it. do not install it dry.
