I noticed that on one of my Grand Sports, the vacuum hose that connects to the cruise control diaphragm was rotted. The 7/32" hose that connects to the brake switch was disintegrating on the engine side of the firewall and perfect once it passed into the interior. There is also a 5/32" hose that connects to a plastic hard line about a foot long that I replaced that too. I can say that it's been many years since I contorted myself to work up under the dash of a C4 and at 52 now, my body is feeling the effects today! I need to remove the seat in the future.
I also found a 5/32" line near up in the drivers side front bumper area where the air pump is located that was rotted. It has a small valve inline as well. All the other hoses on the car that I can see look to be fine. Are there any other common areas where lines are prone to rot that I should look for?
What is really odd is that one GS has 12,000 miles and is absolutely perfect under the hood. Hoses are all original and in great shape. The other one has 3200 miles and had rotted vacuum lines and some corrosion on the aluminum bits that needed cleaning. I think it must be how the cars were stored over the last 25 years.
