Default Charging system issues

Ok this may have been addressed before but i am drawing a blank. 84 Vette all original has me perplexed and totally discumbobulated to point that its no longer fun. i started off with a fresh 12 volts on the battery, i have changed the alternator 3 times, it appears that it is good. but i have a significant draw as the car runs. i changed the plug, i even thought i had it wired wrong. out of both connectors i get battery voltage. although when the car is running battery voltage is steady dropping. if it sits over night with the battery connected , i will wake up to a commpletely drained battery. this is the second plug. when the car is running the big red wire in the back of the alternator is 44-49 volts what gives? i had some blown fuses in the fuse block, i replaced them all the rear defroster pop again. i replaced it and it has not poped , but i havent turned it on. i dont know where to start all over again.

Have you looked at the connector where all of the fusable links connect under the battery? That can be a corrosion nightmare.
On my 86 I was having battery drain issues until I found the starter cable had rubbed on the clamps that hold it close to the engine. I didn't find it right away as the clamp had dug a groove in the cable insulation. I only found it while moving the cable back and forth to look behind the clamps. I installed plastic clamps. No more short to ground.
