I replaced the B pillar weatherstrip on my 96 because of some cracking near the drivers door. From there I ended up replacing the A pillar and Targa top left and right. I bought what was supposed to be the best USA made product. Got it all done last night and did a water test and it’s like Niagara Falls inside. I spent hours fooling with the windows letting them go up more and tilting in to no avail.
it leaks in all 4 corners where the roof meets the A and B pillars. On my other 96, the weather strip is literally like brand new. It’s very soft and forgiving and the corners seal very well. I’m tempted to use a latex imported product to see how that works in comparison. I don’t have anymore ideas on how to fix this.
This morning I had a eureka moment because the car is supported on my two post lift. I thought maybe the roof is spread open a bit which results in the targa side strips to appear short. Then I realized that with the roof bolted down tight, that can’t be the case.
I think I figured out the issue. I was squirting water up under the corners with a hose and my other 96 leaks also when I do that. If I sprayed the water down from the top, it doesn’t leak. Maybe I’m expecting too much. The OEM latex weatherstrip does seem to fit nicer and maybe with time the Epdm will too.
I worked for a weatherstrip company for 19+ years. There are what we call “stuffers” both hollow or solid, depends on how much support you need. In some seals, you can direct the stuffer into corners to help seal those area. The stuffers can be purchased at most auto stores. For future reference I guess.

thanks for reply. I’ll have to look that up. I never heard of stuffers before. You learn something everyday!
