No SES light when key is "on"
Q: I've been reading a lot on these forums and have basically come to the conclusion that if the SES light does not come on when the key is turned to the "on" position, then there may be a problem. I haven't been able to find a clear answer anywhere on the Internet to what this means or what the problem may be. Some people have mentioned that it could be something wrong with the ECM.
Additional Info:
I recently bought a 1990 Corvette, knowing that it wasn't running 100%, but have been getting closer and closer. The first problem that i discovered was that the cats were very backed up. I tore all of them out and it picked up a lot of power. The next thing was the EGR. I replaced it and it made a huge difference in the motor's performance. As of now, cold starts are a little difficult and the motor just seems to run a little rough at idle and when revved up to around 2k (above that it feels smooth). It starts up must faster on when warm. It seems that sometimes when I start it, it will run better than other times.
Also the SES light does definitely work, as it was throwing the code for the EGR a little while back.
Any info on this will be great. Thank you!
Turn the key one more click and see what happens. Your engine needs to be on "Run" position to see the codes,
So I went to check what lights were on the dash when the key was turned to "run", and for the first time since owning the car, the SES came on. Weird coincidence I guess.
If it continues to appear, then great, but if not, I think it could be related to what you were saying about the airbag. Since owning the car, the seatbelt light has belt illuminated. I think I read somewhere on here that the seatbelt light also lights up when there is a problem with the airbag. Also, the INFL REST light has never come on before.
I will check back with ya'll if anything changes. Thanks everyone for the help so far.
