There may be a thread on this already, but could not seem to find it, so excuse me if this has been discussed before. I am getting ready to pickup my first C4. Drivers side seat is trashed. Cracked and ripped. Passenger seat is in pretty good shape. I am NOT interested at all in spending $700 or $1200 for a single or pair of seats. Seats will always be a $400 item in my mind lol.
Anyway, since I will be HPDE tracking and Autocrossing the car anyway I want to go with a racing seat for the driver side. I believe the Max width the seat can be is 20 inches. I believe these two items will fit (naturally have to fabricate brackets)
So I will be the first to say.....get the bolster adjuster working if they are not working....put them maximum narrow...then cut or disconnect the seat bottom support hammocks which will lower your bottom into the seat, now put your seat position to maximum rearward, do your seatbelt up. Now press “cinch” button, and reach down and physically feed the belt back in making it tighter. With “cinch” button pressed its not going to loosen. Now use the power seat to move you forward to driving position.....you will be sucked in so hard.....and go drive.
C4 Sport seats are mind blowingly awesome for hpde track and autocross if you do the above. I cant tell you how many people and instructors have reluctantly sat in my zr-1 seats and go through the above fitting procedure only to say these are better than thier dedicated race seats.
I have been looking for a “alcantara” seat skin for my zr-1’s factory seat that i take to the track allll the time. Micro suede would be the icing on the cake.
So.....there is my experienced opinion for you.
If you go the route of a different seat im interested in how the fitment goes.
Btw, i use the simpson hybrid S. its a hans device for factory 3 point and aftermarket 6 points. works on both.
the early sport seats are amazing, when they work, keep in mind that the seats are identical between pass and driver, just uses different mounting holes to the tracks so you can mix and match parts to get a working driver seat. let your passenger sit on a towel "seat cover" if need be
Thank you for all the feedback so far. I agree the stock seats are awesome seats when they work and are not ripped. However I won't put more than $200 into recovering or fixing them. If I can find a creat looking cover, that fits great maybe. Other than that, it will be a racing bucket
