Coolant leak

Hi,

My vette only leaks when it stays for a while.
When I drive it, it doesnt.
Does anybody know how this is possible ?

Where is the puddle, or is it being absorbed inside, also what year is car.

Hi,

It is a 87. The drops are on the front framebeam. So it seams the pump ... but why only when it stays for a few weeks

Slightly leaking gets flung by rotation and fans, it still boils down to you need to pressure test maybe pull some pulleys and nail down and repair.

I think I need a new pump .... Not looking forward to replacing. Looks complicated

It can get involved but very doable by someone who doesn't mind their own repairs and has a fair tool set. Depending on your knowledge it's an afternoon job.

There is dye that you can put into the radiator and then using a black light you can much more easily trace the source of the leak.

Do you have RPO KC4 (oil cooler)? If so, there is a hose fitting near the water pump that could also be the source of your leak.

Take the pulley off and take a look. Water pumps are weird, they can leak when hot, cold, under pressure, or not.

As I'm in the middle of the exact same problem, the water pump is really not that bad to do on these cars. It took me about two hours to get everything apart, drain the radiator, get the hoses off and pull the pump. I also added in removing the knock sensor to drain the coolant from the block. I also used this opportunity to remove all of the AIR Pump related stuff from the front of the motor.
