1992 Cooling Fan Issue
I need some help with a new issue that popped up on my 92. I have been working out little bugs and I realized that the line to the overflow coolant tank wasn't getting warm/hot after use. The line was clogged which I blew out with compressed air and it now works properly. I have been checking codes weekly as I use the car because I have been slow working on the EGR code.
There is where things started to happen. After a ride to get the car hot, a highway cruise to kick open the EGR. I parked the car, and went to check codes. I jumped A / B on the OBD1 and the cooling fans didn't come on, which are very noticeable when on. I also got a A/C relay circuit code, and the EGR code. I started down the FSM tree for the fans. On a side note my idle is not coming down from 1200 rpm, it always did before all of this other stuff started. I will look into the IAC valve next. I don't know if this is all coincidence or related. My question is really about Test 3 with the ECM and car in A/B mode.
The Cluster fuse on the 92 gives power the fans, the fuse visually is fine and I tested conductivity I get a tone.
Part 1 = Pass got light probing terminal D and E, both connectors.
Part 2 = Probe terminal F with a test light connected to 12 V. Silly question but how do I setup the test light to do that? I used the test light on part one connected to the Neg battery terminal. My understanding of how that would be done it just connect the test light to the 12V positive side of the battery and probe the terminal.
Part 3 = Jump A and E together the fans run. That should rule out the fuse-able link, both connectors I can get the fans to run.
My big question is did I connected the test light correctly in Part 2? If so, the fix is faulty ECM, short or faulty ECM connection. I need some help to confirm how to use the test light connected to 12 volts. Also if it is the ECM is there a good way to isolate the issue to the ECM?
I also realized I had a new relay in a box of parts and I tested it in A/B jumpered mode, and nothing. The fans don't come on like they should.
Thank you,
David
