Default TPS problems

I keep having TPS issues on my 84. I replaced the original 40 year old one with a brand new duralast brand one (I’ve had pretty good luck with autozone brand stuff, plus everyone at my local one knows me) and I keep getting an intermittent code 22. I have it adjusted per the manual. I replaced the original pigtail with a new one. It usually happens when stopped at a light. The idle speed will go from 700 to around 400ish, almost stall, then go to 800 with the CEL being the most prominent thing on the dash. Sometimes I have to feather the throttle to keep the car alive. As soon as I start moving, the CEL turns off and I usually don’t see it again till I drive it again the next day. The car is daily driven and there are some strange things going on with the transmission and rear end but I’ll deal with those when they become more serious problems. Thanks for any help!

More often than not, normally a NEW (never ever worked) part will fix the problem. I would put a scan tool on it or back probe the TPS, key on engine off, check volts throttle closed and that it increases smoothly while depressing the throttle making sure volts are within spec. Buddy of mine had one that read correct at idle and with minimal throttle, it would immediately drop to zero then slowly climb to the ~4.5v.
