Default Seized NEW Knock Sensors (HELP)

Recently I replaced the KS and flushed the coolant system to clear some codes and help revitalize my 96 LT1.
anyway… I accidentally over tightened the KS just by hand tightening, and consequently noticed an engine ping and immediately got a KS code through my OBDII…
I bought a good torque wrench so I could loosen the sensors and properly torque them to 14ft-lbs, though when I try to back out the sensors the bronze part of the sensor with the hex head spins while the outer shell containing the bolt stays put!!!

Does anyone have a good way to remove these suckers without causing a lot of collateral damage? I’m willing to buy new KS, I just need to know a good method to back these things out…

Start with a 6 sided closed-end wrench, and lightly pound the wrench with a large hammer. If that doesn't work, place a pipe wrench around the sensor nut, use an extension on the wrench, if necessary, and tap the pipe wrench with a small sledge.
No need for penetrating olls. Shouldn't damage the sensor to prevent using again with a torque wrench. Buy new, if necessary.
Good luck.

I would try a strap wrench before going towards the aggressive pipe wrench, maybe even putting a dimple or two to pinch the insert

If all else fails, apply some of the gel type super glue and spin the insert around so that it gets inside around the edges. Let dry and should come out if it is not that tight, as you say.

get vice grips on the body - hopefully you got enough room for leverage

also

Youtube knock sensor spins and self-tapping screws thru the disc and body

prob about 1” in length

***disclaimer*** should this not work / i dont know what else to tell you

I had this happen to new knock sensors twice in one day as I was putting a second sensor on the other side of the block. The NPT threads aren’t quite deep enough so it’s tempting to keep tightening for more than 2-3 thread engagement… and the soft crimped wrenching area is ridiculous. The old knock sensors were more solid.

another issue I had is that I got a Milodon road race type oil pan, and it didn’t have the relief for the knock sensor (that scallop in your picture)

The outside housing is directly connected to the threads, don’t be afraid to destroy it with channel locks or pipe wrench, and use a socket on the center at the same time.

Or lock the assembly together as suggested and try again with the soft poorly crimped sheet metal nut.

Just wondering op, how do you overtighten a knock sensor by hand tightening?

A basin wrench will work if you have enough room...
