Thanks, got some good advice on removing my 93 auto came right out , had to remove one side header (Long tubes) that was about as much work as the trans removal, I used my jack, and a plywood gravity was my friend but going back going to buy one of those trans jack adapters deals looks like all I will need one time deal (I hope) Ok any advice on the reinstall .Thanks
To make a bit of a joke about it, almost every repair manual always just says "replacement is the reverse of removal" or something to that effect. Not terrible advice actually. If you have someone who can help you by adding extra hands, then it may be easier.
If you can rent/arrange to borrow an actual transmission jack I believe it would be to your advantage. You might want to make note of the transmission information on the 'pan rail'.
Thanks for the replays, don't have any help but it strapped on the jack should hold it in place while I get it lined up to bolted in , am replacing the oil pan gasket while I am at it seeping a little why not . Thanks
Dipstick tube has to be installed into the case before the trans is up all the way.
Be sure the torque converter is fully seated onto the trans snout. The final dimension is about 1/2" between the converter and the pump mounting bolt heads.
You might want to be sure the new converter indexes into the crank snout, although I've only encountered a problem here once in many, many, installations.
When the trans is in place, check that the converter still turns freely. As long as it does, it hasn't slipped forward.
Check that you aren't pinching any wires between the engine and trans.
Don't draw the trans to the engine with the bolts. Get a couple of the lowers started, and you should be able to push it onto the dowel pins and flush. Then tighten them.
There's some little things to watch for. You'll get it.
Thanks all the info all the info it all adds up not a auto guy stick guy but not like some don't know it all yep been working on these old vettes for years. the converter will come installed will do all I can to keep it there .. just waiting on the Jasper trans guy to it off sometimes today any advice on the rinstall ..Thanks
More than once I had the trans bolted up and realized that I didn't insert the dip stick tube. It's a lot easier doing it when the tranny is not yet in place.
"Jasper" never makes a mistake (/sarc). And you've been working on these old vettes for years. So you know about the speedo drive gear location in a C4 being different than any other application for the MD8, right?
Well, my first Vette was a 61 in 1965 3 speed year later 65 Roster 4 speed and on and on never been without one or 7 all sticks, I will not work on an auto just this one first one I have ever owned and didn't want to work on this one couldn't find anybody to work on it so me AUTO guy that's why I ask questions this is kinda new deal and for sure don't know it all it and not like some pretend to ,so thanks for all the tips on doing this ,C-5 6 speed to me way easier ..Thanks ..

This thing was expensive (even at Harbor Freight) but it's worth every penny. I can't express how much easier it makes putting a transmission in when you have ***** the will adjust the angle of the trans in any direction. I just wish it went a little higher.
radar502, I have the same car, same color, and same floor jack. LOL. just pulled my tranny.
Good deal my trans made it 140,000, taking out not too bad going back a trans jack will be your friend for sure. I had to remove the bracket on my filler tube just would not go in maybe halfway other than that the reinstall was not too bad. Good luck with it.
