Default Fuel pump

Hello, So today I installed the third FP I have purchased for this project. I put it in a gallon of gas in a bucket to make sure that it worked. I fed the pump and strainer into the opening in the fuel tank. The pump and strainer went in. But I had difficulty seating the flange on the tank. This happened once before. So this time I put an cork gasket. I figured that maybe the sender unit was not specific to Corvette and longer than the stock set up. I purchased slightly longer bolts. But, I still had a problem getting the flange to sit flat. I worked all of the bolts down and the flange seated properly. The pump is working, I ran the car. I am going to check the FP tomorrow. Before I do the injectors. Has anyone of you had to PUSH the sender assembly down? I just hated doing it. I thought it should just fit without any force. Just curious.

Thank you all
Joe

Sorry,
To hear this.

The top of the fuel tank is flat.
The sending unit is flat.
Basic rule number 1 excessive force. Indicates. Something is NOT correct. Typically damaging.
No need for longer bolts, cork will not survive.
The fuel float level. Apparently caught.
The unit does not install. straight down.
Slight angle to the DS. Then slowly tilt upright.

Can, you clarify. Not specific. to the corvette.?

I'm going to remove the pump and see if I can get it to shift and fit better. The float has always worked correctly. But, I believe you are correct.
thank you

As I think about it. I think I have to change the position of the strainer. Thank you

On my 87 the sock has to fit into a plastic trough at the bottom of the tank, the sock can not point side to side, it has to point toward the front of the car.

What I didn't realize is that I have the front in the back. So the strainer/sock is on the lip of the boat. Doh!!!

Good advice. On my 84 previous owner had replaced pump but had placed sock side to side.
