Hello, So as some of you know I have been doing some work on my 89 6 spd. So today I started to change the Fuel Injectors. I bought this car from a guy that had it in storage for 10 years. Motor was rusted, Injector wires were eaten. I got it running and did no more. Today as I looked at the intake and the front of the engine. I decided to do nothing more than clean up the motor so it has some sign of care. Everything is covered in rust, road dirt and grease. So I decided to remove all the front of the motor and if nothing else, replace the water pump and timing chain and clean it. Attached to this email is some pictures.
The alternator bracket is broken as you can see. So I am wondering if anyone has one. Or maybe I can have it welded.
The nuts that hold on the water pump. I think that they are both 14 mm. I was able to remove the upper nut.
This is the smog pump. I am thinking of removing it and capping the tubes that feed the exhaust. Is this going to cause me a problem?
I am going to remove the hot water feed to the TBI unit. Do I just run the hose from the front of the engine to heater?
This is the first time I am uploading pictures so they are in no particular order.
Does anyone know the length belt I will need once I have deleted the smog pump?

Thank you for your help

These are studs that go into the motor and hold on the water pump. I think both nuts are 14 mm. Does anyone have a combination of wrenches, sockets whatever to remove the lower nut.

I am thinking of removing the pump.

broken Alternator Bracket

I am thinking of removing the pump and just capping the ends of the tubes

yeah that is pretty grimy. what I typically do is pressure wash right before disassembly to make the wrenching so much easier.

Yes you can have the ac bracket welded. I did on my 87.i found the guy on the classified ads and he charged me $75 Today i would just braze it myself

for removing the waterpump i do not recall it being overly hard? i did it all with a basic set of extensions and wobblies from a home depot tool set. what exactly are you struggling with?

yes you need to send the water line that would have gone into the TB, under the TB and connect back into the water line that feeds over to the heater.

good job getting the 89 6 speed running again! I understand the desire to get it all cleaned up!

My comment about pressure washing was from many c4's worth of experience where the engines are covered in oil and dirt and grit. you will need to use a pile of rags and lots of spray chemical and elbow grease to get that tidy.

An L shaped hose for a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee fits the bypass layout perfectly after trimming the long end to length.

Does your car have the rear alternator brace to exhaust manifold?

Not sure the belt will have enough wrap on the power steering pulley if you remove the smog pump. Replace, gut internally, or install one of the pulley kits.

Yes, I do have a brace from the alternator to the exhaust manifold. I know. If I have the brace do I need to replace or repair the broken one. I am not a clean freak or a must be stock person. But, if something is broken. I hate putting it back on the car. Just me.

I did this to my 84. When I did the camshaft. The guy next door has a power washer. It was then I found out the suspension was unpainted aluminum, lol. I'm just so tired of looking at the grime.
With respect to the water pump. A deep socket is too long to get over the lower stud. It hits the idler pulley. I'm thinking of cutting the stud or grinding down the socket. I'm working on the ground. I blew out my shoulder so I trying not to get too twisted up. Even supporting my weight with my arm extended is almost impossible. Really hurts A LOT, stinks.
With respect to the air pump I guess I could just disconnect it from the rest of the piping and cap the tubes to the exhaust manifolds.

Will deleting the air pump give me any ECM issues?

Thank you

No codes from unplugging smog diverter valve.
