‘86 Air pump delete
After getting my corvette and getting through some of the basic maintenance items, it became pretty clear to me that the AIR system was a pain in the butt to work around in the engine bay especially when changing plugs. The car had already had the cats removed when I got it so it was just wasting space and weight.
All in all it was a pretty simple process, just removing stuff from the bay. I removed the pump and all the piping - loosening the AC bracket to remove the pipe behind there was probably the hardest part. I chopped some of that pipe into pieces so it was easier to pull, I’d definitely recommend that.
I also pulled the headers and chopped and welded those since that was my main issue and I took some time and cleaned up the inside of the headers as there was a lot of weld and AIR tube hanging out in there.
Headers pulled, still have the AIR and EGR piping.
Cleaned up the pipe that hung down in the headers, along with some atrocious welds.
Welded up all the holes.
Much more room in the bay now.
After the headers were back on I threw on my cheap eBay pulley delete kit. It was mostly without issue but I found that the holes in the mounts didn’t quite line up when on the block. Not an issue though, just took my dremmel to the piece and slotted out the close hole and cut off the excess. Honestly not too bad for a 30 dollar piece.
My humble slotting effort.
Delete kit in action.
You can see in that last photo that the stock belt sat a little loose so I did end up getting a 6PK2195 belt instead and now it’s running just fine, especially without a locked up pump under the there.
Pretty easy to finish up in a weekend if you’ve got the tools laying around.
10/10 would recommend if you don’t have emissions tests to worry about.

I definitely mean the stock exhaust pieces attached to the heads.
