This is the best picture I found now. You see the front hinge for the tray, and the slot on the tray side. You can drop the tray to a lower position to fit a full width tyre, or use the upper position for a space saver tire.
The rear fastening bolt also haev an upper and lower anchor point.
In the lower position the tray will be very visible from behind.
There is also some adjustment possible on the threads, so a slightley wider tire can me made to fit with the tray in the upper position.
Thanks for the great info and pics. I guess iam looking for an easy answer like use one from a 4th gen firebird or something like that so i can pick one up in the junk yard. C4s are always missing spares in the yard.
Kind of pricey and overkill but I wanted something that would clear any future big brake kit. I have heard 04-06 GTO spares will work with the right hubcentric adapter but I can't say I know a ton about that.
I use a late model Camry spare with an adapter. Tire is the same size as the 88-96 corvette spare and it clears my c5 front brakes. I found a Camry spare cheap and the tire was less than a year old.
